World Book Early Learning Basics

World Book has a feature of their resource called Early Learning Basics. You can find this feature at the top of the World Book Early Learning home page. Go to www.infohio.org.

  1. Click the Ages 3-5 button or Grades K-5 button, depending on the age of your students.
  2. Click the gray "i" in the World Book Early Learning resource box.
  3. Click the Open button to access World Book Early Learning.

Once you click on Early Learning Basics at the top of the homepage, there are four different sections for exploration: Fun With Words, Count & Play, Once Upon a Time..., and Welcome to Reading. Each of these include essential skills for PreK-Kindergarten students such as letter and number recognition, and early math concepts of counting and classification.

Early Literacy Skills

The content included in Early Learning Basics complements many components of Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards: Birth to Kindergarten Entry and Best Practices for Digital Reading. From birth to pre-kindergarten children need exposure to a variety of learning activities in order to grow as readers. Rhyming, letter recognition, character development in familiar stories, differentiated text, and the use of bimodal reading experiences including audio and highlighting of words are important. These skills can be developed and supported with the activities included in Early Learning Basics.

Fun With Words - Practice letter recognition and how to write letters of the alphabet with these tracing games. With these interactive games, students are able to work independently.

Count & Play - Practice number recognition and how to write numbers with these tracing games. With these interactive games, students are able to work independently.

Once Upon a Time - Listen to fairy tales and nursery rhymes read aloud with highlighted text. Ask students simple comprehension questions about these familiar stories.

Welcome to Reading - Begin a personalized reading program for each student using the leveled books available. Start students where they are to begin their reading journey without frustration.

A training video has been created on Early Learning Basics. Review this video on the World Book Early Learning Video Tutorials site and watch the video, Early Learning Basics.
