Exploring a Topic

Now that you have learned how to locate resources in IWonder, practice your new navigational skills by completing the following exercise. IWonder can be a great resource to introduce students to the topic you are about to teach. Consider using IWonder as a tool for students to explore a topic before instruction begins.

  1. Think about an upcoming lesson or unit you plan to teach.
  2. Go to www.infohio.org and find IWonder on the site using what you have learned.
  3. Consider which categories or questions best correspond to the topic of the upcoming lesson or unit.
  4. Explore these categories on your own. Determine if the resources are engaging, appropriate, and beneficial to your students.
  5. Use the search feature to locate additional resources about the topic you plan to teach in the upcoming unit or lesson. Review the resources you find.
  6. Next, locate the IWonder Genius Hour Teacher's Guide. Review the content of the Teacher's Guide.
  7. Finally, download the editable IWonder Student Worksheet. Think about the different modifications you can make to the worksheet to benefit your students as they locate and record information.
