Citing Sources from ISearch

Learning Objectives
  •  Develop accurate citations for resources in ISearch.
Sharing Information

When students are ready to share their projects, it is important for them to give credit to the sources of information they used. Citing sources with ISearch is made easier with the help of a cite button in the resource. However, students will need to review the citations and ensure they have the best version.

Citing Sources

Use the cite tool in ISearch to access a citation for the source in various styles. Choose the citation style you need using the scroll bar.

Save the citation or email it. You can also copy it.

Once students have completed their research and gathered citations, it is important for them to check them. Some citation builders are better than others, and the best citations are often those built by the student using helpful guides such as those found on Purdue OWL. The INFOhio Citation Guide is also helpful.

Reflecting on Your Learning
  1. What citation tools have you used previously with students? How do they compare with ISearch's cite button?
  2. How will you present the importance of checking citation tools' outputs? What are methods you have used in the past to support students in creating citations?
  3. How did this lesson change or impact your understanding of the inquiry process?
