Step 3: The Facts of the Case, Step 4: Synthesis and Beyond!, and Let's Get to Work!
  • After students have reviewed the unit's resources, they can begin to compare what they know to their hypothesis and use evidence to support their ideas.
  • The Facts of the Case is for educators to share after students have completed these actions.
  • After solving the case, students can extend their learning by exploring other possibilities or outcomes. These may include ideas not suggested by the authors or the teacher. Students should also discuss what the unit helps them understand about their responsibility to humans.
  • The “Big Ideas” section of each unit introduces the unit’s crucial elements.
  • The “SEL Spotlight” reminds users of the connection between the unit content and social and emotional learning.

  • The authors encourage educators to explore the units for grade levels beyond their scope of teaching, and rework them to meet the needs of students at all levels.
