Welcome to the Using Technology with Early Learners Class

 

Learning Objectives

Use the following objectives to check your learning as you proceed through the class:

  • Identify benefits of using technology with children ages 3-5.
  • Use the Three C's when using technology with children ages 3-5.
  • Create media-rich environments that help children become accustomed to, and proficient with, various types of media.
  • Explore the theory of biliterate brain development.
  • Discover best practices for using technology as a family with young children.
  • Use research and data to support the use of technology in teaching and learning for children ages 3-5.
  • Find community resources to aid in the intentional use of technology for teaching and learning.
  • Identify quality resources to support the use of technology by early learners.
  • Reflect on learning by sharing information with others.

 

In this class, you will work through several lessons to learn how to effectively use technology with children ages 3-5 for teaching and learning. Below is a description of each lesson and an estimate of the amount of time it may take to complete each one.

Getting Started
  • Welcome to the Using Technology with Early Learners Class: Review the course objectives and the course overview. 5 minutes

  • Using Open Space Groups: Join the Early Learning Open Space group. In this group, discuss and reflect on the use of technology with early learners with like-minded educators. 5 minutes

Adult Support For Early Learners and Technology Use
  • Using Technology with Early Learners:  Identify the benefits of using technology with early learners and apply strategies to enhance those benefits. 20 minutes
  • Teaching Early Learners with Technology:  Read research that supports the use of technology in early learning classrooms and identify quality resources to integrate. 25 minutes
  • Family Best Practices for Using Technology: Learn strategies and plans to implement as a family to encourage healthy use of media and technology. 25 minutes
  • Community Support for Early Learners and Technology: Explore plans with guidance on how communities can support early learners and families with technology use. 20 minutes
Checking Your Learning
  • Self-Assessments: Answer questions to reflect on what you learned. Share your learning with others. 20 minutes
  • Quiz and Contact Hour Certificate: Take a quiz to earn a contact hour certificate for 2 contact hours (2 Ohio Approved hours). 5 minutes
