Checkpoint: Finding and Evaluating OER

STOP! Did you create an account on Open Space and join the All About OER group?

From the instructions on the previous lesson page, go to openspace.infohio.org and sign-in or sign-up for a free account. Click on the Groups menu item in the top navigation bar to see featured groups and the See all Groups link. Find and click on the All About OER group. Click the "Join this group" button in the top section of the group. The group will now appear under "My Groups" in the Groups menu item on Open Space. Alternatively, you can access the All About OER group directly here.

Reflection

After completing the lessons about finding and evaluating open educational resources, think about the following questions and answer them to yourself. It might be helpful to compose your responses somewhere to be able to save and return to them later.

  • What is you comfort level with finding resources on Open Space? Are you able to find instructional materials on Educator Tools?
  • Are you able to search for and find openly licensed multimedia?
  • What makes a resource high-quality?
  • What were common elements of quality assurance rubrics for instructional materials?
  • What are the most important criteria for you (or your district/organization) for identifying quality OER?
