Using Open Space Groups

Connect and Collaborate with Open Space

INFOhio's Learning Pathways classes include discussion and reflection questions to encourage participation, critical thinking, and collaboration. Educators value collaboration while learning. Connecting with other educators builds effective use of differentiation, data use, and quality instructional materials in classroom instruction (Teachers Know Best: Teachers' Views on Professional Development, Gates Foundation, 2014).

Open Space is Ohio's premier instructional material curation and collaboration space. INFOhio has built collections, endorsements, and hubs featuring high-quality instructional materials to help educators quickly locate the resources they need.

With Open Space, you can:

  • Join and create groups with like-minded educators.
  • Search from instructional materials that include full courses, textbooks, and lesson plans.
  • Create and share instructional materials.

To learn more about Open Space, complete the following:

  1. Watch the webinar Community and Collaboration with Open Space Groups. You may take the quiz that follows to earn a certificate for 30 minutes, but it is not required for the class.
  2. Read the Open Space Groups for Users Guide.

Taking part in discussions and reflection is optional in this class, but doing so will be beneficial for several reasons. Discussions while learning help participants develop:

  • diverse perspectives.
  • attentive, respectful listening.
  • better connection to topic and content.
  • clear communication.
  • collaboration habits.
  • synthesis and integration skills.

To facilitate learning and encourage reflection, INFOhio recommends that you:

  1. Register for a free Open Space account.
  2. Join the Professional Learning Book Study: Building Blocks for Tiny Techies group in Open Space. Once in the group, navigate to the Discussions tab. Throughout this class, there will be discussion questions at the bottom of some lessons. Members of the group can share their answers to the discussion questions and reflect on their learning.
