When a popular book hits the shelves, the kids all want to read it.  Are you using sticky notes or a paper list to keep track of who wants it?  Let Sirsi do the work for you by using Holds.

First your district needs to decide if they want holds only for each building’s collection or if they will share items from building to building.  Then determine if you want students to place holds themselves in the online catalog.  Your ITC’s INFOhio provider can set this up for you.

When you place a hold, you need to determine the Level of the hold - Title (the default -  puts a hold on all items for a specific bib record) or a Copy Hold.  A Copy Hold is placed on a specific item. This is handy for records that contain a series of items such as countries of the world.  It allows you request a specific country rather than the first available item in the series.

Another thing to keep in mind is the expiration date.  Be sure all holds expire in June when school is out.  Your ITC will delete all those holds for you over the summer, so no items will have old holds in the fall.

When an item with a hold on it is returned, you’ll see a notice on the screen and can print it.
