Classroom Integration Ideas

  • (ES): Click on the link for Length Strength: Centimeters.  https://www.harcourtschool.com/activity/length_strength1_centi/For a whole group activity, use a projected image of the computer screen, model how to use the online ruler to solve the measurement problem in centimeters.  Read the directions to the class. Drag and drop the ruler to measure the object. Have students determine how many centimeters long the object is. Type your answer and click return or enter to check it.   When the demonstration is complete, have students click on the link for Length Strength: Inches and measure objects in inches.
  • (MS, HS): Click on the link for Accurate Online RulerClick on the “Let’s Start” button.   Follow the directions on the screen to practice using the ruler.   Then click “Next”.     Now locate 5 objects that you can measure using the online ruler.   Put the object you want to measure on the screen and measure it.   You can choose centimeters or inches.   Record the measurements of each object.  Share with the class.
