Your Weekend Playlist for Professional Growth: INFOhio Loves Reading

Written by Erica Clay on Thursday, 08 February 2018. Posted in Posts

This is another post in the Teach With INFOhio series "Your Weekend Playlist for Professional Growth." In this series, you'll find podcast episodes, videos, and more that you can listen to or watch while relaxing. For some of the playlist items, you might be able to earn a certificate of attendance for professional development. Others may not earn you PD CEUs but they're worth the watch or listen. Either way, you'll be growing professionally—learning more about yourself and getting inspired to bring your "A Game" to the upcoming week.

This month, we've been demonstrating how INFOhio loves reading and sharing strategies for integrating INFOhio literacy resources into your classroom instruction. This playlist will give you ideas for how you can rekindle some literacy love in your classroom and your school.

All Readers Should Be Part of a Reading Community—Pam Allyn, Scholastic Education

Do you think of reading as a solitary activity? Something for loners? In one minute, best-selling author and literacy advocate, Pam Allyn, dispels this myth and advocates for developing a community of readers.

Encouraging a Passion for Life-Long Reading in Young Children—ParentEd Podcast

JoEllen McCarthy works as staff developer for AlwaysLearning and for Chris Lehman's The Educator Collaborative. In this episode of ParentED, JoEllen shares tips for parents and educators to help children develop a love of reading.

Library Literacy Love: Creating a Reading Culture in Your School with INFOhio—Elaine Fultz, Learn With INFOhio Webinar

This webinar was tons of fun! It was recorded live at the 2017 OELMA Conference. Elaine Fultz is the District Media Specialist for Madison Local Schools in Ohio and was a member of the 2017 Newbery committee. Her book-love is contagious! You can watch the video, embedded here, or find it on the webinar webpage, linked above. You'll need to be connected to the Internet to watch the webinar. Take the quiz following the webinar so you can earn your free certificate for 1 contact hour.

Often we think of helping each individual child develop a love for reading. In this webinar, Elaine Fultz shares best practices for creating a culture of engaged reading in your entire school building. One key is for teachers and administrators to model a passion for reading. Share this with the principal in your building and ask her to watch at least minutes 28-30.

Throughout the rest of the month, share the literacy love happening in your school with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using #INFOhioWorks!
