8:00am–10:00am: Extended Session: Build Your Own Standards-Aligned Digital Curriculum...for Free!
Are you using textbooks that are more than 10 years old? Are you spending your weekend scouring the web for free instructional materials? When it comes to supplementing or building curriculum using Open Educational Resources, the challenges are many. With INFOhio, finding teacher-approved digital resources that you can use for free to build or supplement your curriculum is quick and easy. In this session, you'll dig into INFOhio's OER tools and the high-quality digital resources that INFOhio has licensed for all Ohio PreK-12 students, educators, and their parents. Using INFOhio's Educator Tools, which now includes over 80,000 lesson plans, assessments, and other instructional materials curated by education professionals, you will build a personal collection of standards-aligned lessons, labs, and other activities. Then you'll use ISearch to discover a wealth of digital content--including texts, videos, images, and more--that you can upload to your learning management system for student use. Technology is a powerful tool, but how does it help you differentiate your instruction?  This session explores how to engage students and enhance learning to meet each student’s needs by adding new technology tools to your toolbox with INFOhio’s digital content and resources to help differentiate instruction. By focusing on the intersection of free digital tools and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), INFOhio’s resources support teachers in finding content to differentiate instruction and to re-envision classroom activities.

Are your students getting the most out of the digital era? Do your students comprehend, analyze, and synthesize when they read from a screen? The Ohio Distance Learning Association will present a series of information for educators (teachers, guidance counselors, administrators), to showcase all of the amazing career-oriented distance learning opportunities offered by the Ohio Distance Learning Association members.  Each showcase presenter will share information about their career-oriented programs.  Three grade-specific areas covered include elementary, middle and high school.

8:00am–9:00am: Explore. Create. Collaborate. Open Educational Resources PreK-12 
The Open Educational Resource tool powered by INFOhio, Ohio PreK-12 Open Space, is ready for districts and groups to begin contributing and sharing! Members of the INFOhio Open Education Resource Collaborative will discuss what is OER, what is Creative Commons Licensing, why use OER and Open Space, and the impact on PreK-12 schools and districts. In this panel discussion you will learn why educators are using Open Space to create and collaborate to build content for personalized learning. Open Space is free to every Ohio PreK-12 educator.  Open Space includes built-in, easy-to-use authoring tools. A robust rubric provides guidance in creating high-quality resources that meet student learning needs. All resources easily integrate into Google Classroom. Join this panel and gain ideas on how your district or school can work with Open Space to build curriculum, learning modules, and learning objects. Bring your device and learn how to find, use, and create Open Education Resources (OER) for your classroom in this two-hour workshop. You will become familiar with the tools needed to return to your school as an early OER adopter, ready to engage others! This session is targeted for educators who are interested in learning about OER to explore potential applications in their content areas or schools. 
This session is designed for:

  • Teachers interested in adopting, promoting, or developing open resources to meet student learning needs. 
  • Librarians who work with faculty and others to find open resources, differentiate instruction, and meet learning needs.
  • Curriculum Directors who help design courses or textbooks using open resources and who would like to share how to design courses using open resources.
  • Administrators who would like to create programs focused on finding and adopting open resources to use in courses or as textbooks.
  • Technology leaders who would like to create programs focused on finding, adopting, developing, and integrating open resources in instruction.
  • School leaders who are interested in helping classroom teachers learn more about open resources and who want to present workshops on campus about finding and adopting open resources.

1:00pm–2:00pm: Using INFOhio Resources to Streamline Research & Battle Fake News
Many educators struggle with finding high-quality resources that can be used in an inquiry-based classroom. This presenter will discuss the free resources available through INFOhio that educators can use to teach information literacy across various curricula. The presenter will also discuss strategies that she has used to teach website validity in the age of fake news. Resources will be shared with participants that they can start to use immediately. A question and answer session will be included at the end so that participants can examine how they can use the information in their situation.

Erica Clay has been a member of INFOhio's Instructional Team since December 2013. She earned a BA in English and Music and a Master of Humanities from Wright State University, and a Master of Library Science from Indiana University.
