MARC files from the INFOhio Union Catalog
- Multiple records can be downloaded in one session, but don't do so many
at one time that you would be uncomfortable if the download was lost.
- If you are not using one of these emulators be sure that
it can handle VT220 or higher emulation.
- If it doesn't hand this emulation, you will not be
able to export the MARC records.

Logon to the Union Catalog
Use a telnet application to telnet to "union.infohio.org"
Click on Connect

At the username prompt type in union_opac3
- NOTE: If you are using WebMail, Eudora Light or Pine
Mail use union_opac2
- There is no password on "union_opac2"
Use union_opac1
to have your MARC records sent to a webserver.

Type in your complete email address and select Enter
key on the keyboard.

At this window, you have options of Begin the
search or Exit the Union Catalog.
User your up and down arrow key to select your option. Select
the Enter key on your keyboard when you choice is highlighted, to
continue.

Select the search method that you want to use and select
the Enter key on your keyboard.
NOTE: You can select a different search option by
using your Up and Down arrow keys on your keyboard.

- Additional search types (such as ISBN) are not visible,
but can be viewed by scrolling down.

- Searches may be speeded up by putting in the two-letter
abbreviation, then = (equal sign).
- For example: SB=0684187477 to search ISBN (Title Search
is the default.)

After you have selected your search option type in
your request and select the Enter key on your keyboard.
- Searching for Science Life as a title is illustrated.
- If you do not want to continue select the PF1 key
(numlock key) to exit.

The result of your search will be shown in the next
window on your display.

Select your MARC file by typing in the number next to
the title that you want and select Enter or Return on
your keyboard.
You can select the number of the MARC record that you
want and select Enter to view the record or you can select the PF1
key (usually the numlock key if you are using a terminal emulator and
not an actual dumb terminal) to exit this screen without selecting a
record.
- Select the space bar or any
key on your keyboard until you see
PF1: Exit
F9: Export <Prev Scrn>: Previous
title <Next Scrn>: next title
You may or may not have to select
the space bar or any key to get to this point depending on how long
the MARC record is

- When you are at the bottom of the page, select the F9 key (if
you are using a Mac, this will be the F4 key) to export the MARC
Record.
A window will pop-up and display Record Queued for export.

- Select the PF1 key (usually the numlock key if you are using
a terminal emulator and not an actual dumb terminal).
This will take the record queued for export window off the screen.
You can select another record or you can select the PF1 key again
to exit the screen.
- You can do another search at this point or you can exit by selecting
the PF1 key.

- After you select the PF1 key you will get a screen that has
the following options:
- Export bibliographic records (Select this choice)
- Export authority records
- Export bibliographic and authority records
Select the Export bibliographic records using the Up and Down
arrow keys and select the Return key on your keyboard to activate
the export process.

- Then next window that is displayed will show:
- Begin MARC export to host (Select this choice)
- Begin MARC export to your site
- Specify an export parameter file
Select the Begin MARC export to host and select the Enter key
on your keyboard.

- The next window will display a message - hit any key to continue.
Select the spacebar or any key to continue the export process.

- At the next screen, you will have the option - Begin the search or
Exit
- You will need to select the Exit by using the Up and Down
arrow key.
- Select Enter or Return to have the MARC record sent
to your email account.
- NOTE: If you do not Exit, you will not get your MARC
records.

After you have logged out of the Union Catalog and received your MARC
records click on the email client that you are using for instructions on
how to extract the files from your email.
