INFOhio Spence White Service
Award, 2008 Linda Ehrnschwender, Media Services Liaison, LEECA Presentation
Remarks Linda has a bachelor's degree in special education and a master's in education with a reading specialist concentration. She has been a special education teacher and Title I reading teacher in New York, Michigan and Ohio districts. Since 1997, Linda serves 27 districts and about 80 non-public schools in Northern Ohio by providing support for library automation software and electronic resources from INFOhio and LEECA. The consistent theme expressed by Linda's nominators for this award is her devotion to customer service. Co-workers, colleagues around the state, and – most importantly – the librarians she serves, praise Linda for making technology seem simple, even when it is daunting. Jacy Nichols, second-year librarian at Westlake High School, shared the view of others when she said Linda “made it so easy to ask for help ... and it is nice to know she is always there when I am lost.” Spence White did so much to make INFOhio possible. As an ITC Director, Spence recognized very early on how the Ohio Education Computer Network could support INFOhio's vision of providing equal access to information resources to all Ohio students and teachers. Spence believed wholeheartedly in INFOhio’s goals, and he worked tirelessly to make INFOhio a reality. While he is no longer with us, we celebrate Spence White's legacy and hold it as a standard of excellence as we move forward. So it is altogether fitting, with great pleasure and gratitude for all that she has done for INFOhio, that I present the 2008 Spence White Service Award to Linda Ehrnschwender. In times of difficulty and uncertainty, the themes of leadership and service endure. I am confident in our future and in the futures of the millions of students and educators we serve, now and in many years to come. This confidence derives not from a crystal ball or inside information from an anonymous source. My confidence is founded in the works of those who have come before, as represented by Spence White and Hugh Durbin, exemplified by those in this room and those who remain in their libraries across our state. Most of all, my confidence anticipates the work yet unachieved, the leaders not yet identified or even born. In spite of everything, I see a bright future for our profession and those we serve. Thank you! |
