SirsiDynix
Migration
Migration Update
Message from Terri Shutt
April 18, 2006Java Client Status Report
Several INFOhio districts agreed to pilot SirsiDynix's new GL3.0 Java WorkFlows®
clients for PC and Macintosh in early 2006. Although the pilot was deemed to be
successful, there were some notable problems (installation/update process, printing,
several Wizard problems and response time issues) that we asked SirsiDynix to address
before we can begin rolling out these clients statewide.
The most significant issues have been addressed in the new GL3.1 release of
SirsiDynix's K-12 software, and GL3.1 will be applied at all ITC sites this summer. Please
note the following Wizards will not be available in the Java clients as noted:
- Batch Add Copy (PC and Mac)
- KidPower (PC and Mac)
- MARC Import (Mac)
To ensure that your library's Macintosh or PC workstation will be compatible with the
Java client, please review the INFOhio equipment
specifications carefully with your district's technology coordinator.
| Java Client Rollout Plan |

|
Java pilot sites will continue using the GL3.0 client for the remainder of
the 2005-2006 school year. |

|
ITC staff need to become familiar with the Java client, so they can train
and support their users. |

|
Each instance requires some special setup and preparation before using the
Java client against it. |

|
June providers training will include preparing Java instances,
administering Java clients and learning new features of the client. |

|
ITCs having Mac libraries will be scheduled for the GL3.1 upgrade ahead of
non-Mac ITCs. |

|
SirsiDynix will continue to provide and support a C client through Version
GL3.2. |

|
We have approximately two years to get all current library users
transitioned to the Java client. |

|
Providers should develop a plan and timeline for transitioning their own
libraries to the Java client, with Mac libraries given priority. |

|
After the GL3.1 upgrade, ITCs can begin to prepare instances for Java and
transition users according to their transition plan. |

|
LSTA requirements are for newly automated libraries expected to be
circulating by fall 2006. The Java client will be available in July in time to meet this
requirement. |

|
ITCs should consider holding off new migrations and training until after
the GL3.1 upgrade, especially Mac libraries. PC libraries could come up on C client and
later transition to Java. |
