INFOhio
Expanded Cataloging Services OCLC WorldCat Access INFOhio
has joined with Ohio's Information
Technology Centers (ITCs) that support INFOhio to purchase an expanded
cataloging subscription from OHIONET/OCLC.
The expanded cataloging service allows schools automated with INFOhio to
access OCLC WorldCat using the SmartPort feature; they can
import an unlimited number of bibliographic records throughout the
2007-2008 school year. The OCLC WorldCat bibliographic database contains more than 85 million records from all types of libraries worldwide. WorkFlows® users can select and download individual bibliographic records by using SmartPort. A SmartPort connection to WorldCat has been established through each Information Technology Center (ITC), so WorkFlows users need no separate username or password to access WorldCat. This expanded cataloging service has been funded by INFOhio and the ITCs. INFOhio will use the 2007-2008 school year to evaluate the service to determine its continuation. INFOhio will also be working with the schools and ITCs to determine ongoing service costs and funding options. This is in lieu of the more limited CatExpress subscriptions previously available through INFOhio. School libraries that are not automated with INFOhio may subscribe to CatExpress directly through OHIONET for 2007-2008 and will retrieve exported records directly from OCLC's Web site (rather than the INFOhio Web site). OHIONET will provide support. Contact Roman Panchyshyn, 800-686-8975, ext. 10, memserv@ohionet.org. There is no limit to the number of OCLC records schools can capture,
but we do encourage library staff to use
SmartPort to search the INFOhio Curriculum Resource Catalog
first, as those records may contain standard alignments that are not found
elsewhere. Technical Specifications |
