Vendor Specifications for MARC 21
Revised June 10, 2006

Question:  What is MARC 21? Should I change my specs for vendors providing MARC records?

Answer:  It is not necessary to change specs for providers of MARC records. MARC is not a static set of standards. They change. A recent change resulted in USMARC and CAN/MARC being identical. As a result, the new publication of the standards as revised is being called MARC 21 and it replaces the previous USMARC and CAN/MARC publications. You can find out more about MARC 21 under General Information at http://lcweb.loc.gov/marc.

updated.gif (168 bytes) INFOhio has prepared a document, INFOhio Vendor MARC Record Specifications (June 2006) [MS Word OR PDF 1 pg], that MultiLIS and SirsiSynix libraries can use to communicate item-specific information to jobbers or vendors of MARC records.
