658 Tags: Aligning Resources to Ohio Academic Content Standards
Posted Septmber 12, 2003

For library media staff who are adding 658 tags that align local educational materials to Ohio Academic Content Standards, INFOhio has developed procedures to make the process effective and efficient. The steps lead from Content Standard to Ohio Standard Indicator Code (OSIC) by presenting a series of Web pages that display choices appropriate to the material being aligned.

The process concludes with a 658 tag for MultiLIS or the SirsiDynix K-12 product, formatted correctly and ready to copy and paste into the cataloging record's 658 tag. An additional subfield is added separately to indicate the agency that made the alignment. The entire standard is formatted according to MARC 21, and 658 components are subject-searchable in CAT and CAT Jr.

Records that include locally-aligned 658 tags will be added to the K-12 Curriculum Resource Catalog for subsequent downloading throughout Ohio.
