Cataloging Reference Archive 600 Tags for Collective Biographies: Searching by
Individual Names
Posted March 26, 2001
A 600 tag needs to be created for each individual for whom a subject search is
desired. This tag is repeatable and one must be created for each individual that is to be
searched. This field is subject to authority control within MultiLIS. MultiLIS users will,
after typing in the name correctly, be presented with a list of names from which to
choose. An asterisk to the left of the name indicates an LC/LCC authority record, and it
should be selected above all others. If no list is presented, then single entry should be
selected. Single entries will periodically be replaced by official Library of Congress
authority records. Following are examples and detailed MARC standards for creating this
tag.
