586 Tag for Award Notes

Question:  Where should award notes be placed for things such as Newbery, Caldecott, etc.?

Answer:   The 586 tag is provided for award notes. The INFOhio MARC Record Standards series and the INFOhio Guidelines for Enhancing MARC Records (all available from our INFOhio Cataloging MARC Documents page) may be helpful in entering this information correctly.

Although Sirsi's K-12 product searches the 586 tag during an All Fields search, MultiLIS software does not. MultiLIS users wishing to perform a search for various awards should also enter the award information in a MultiLIS document type or a subject keyword field.
