INFOhio Hugh Durbin
Leadership Award, 2007
Connie Carnicom, Library Media
Specialist, Fosteria Community SchoolsPresentation
Remarks
John Myles, Past Co-Chair, INFOhio Governing Advisory Board
I would like to thank President Schmarr, Vice President Halsey and the
Awards Committee for including INFOhio in this Awards Program. I am always
inspired and challenged by the information shared by our colleagues from
across the state. The OELMA Conference continues to be a showcase for the
instructional leadership role school library media specialists play in our
buildings everyday.
Hugh Durbin was a cherished colleague, mentor and friend to a generation of
library media specialists across Ohio. He served for 19 years as the
Director of Library Media Services for the Columbus Public Schools and was
OELMA President in 1978. His vision, leadership and dedication to the
profession serve as a benchmark for all of us today.
In celebration of his memory, the INFOhio Hugh Durbin Leadership Award was
created to honor a licensed school library media specialist who has
demonstrated outstanding leadership in the use of INFOhio provided resources
to meet student and teacher needs.
I am pleased to announce that the 2007 INFOhio Hugh Durbin Leadership Award
recipient is Connie Carnicom, the library media specialist with the
Fostoria Community
Schools. Connie has worked very hard to integrate INFOhio into the
curriculum and professional development of the Fostoria schools. She has
also been quite involved in the activities of the NOECA Library Services
Group.
| To quote a couple of her colleagues: |
 |
"Connie knows how to funnel the power of INFOhio
into the library and the classroom and does not hesitate to share
her knowledge.” |
 |
“Connie’s commitment to keeping the district current
in areas of literacy and technology are admirable, but her devotion
to the education of Fostoria Community Schools is second to none." |
|
Please welcome our award winner, Connie Carnicom.
I would like to recognize our previous recipients: Nancy Nickel, Diana Kiehl,
Jane Puleo, Carol Gibson, Cheri Forster and Debbie Reynolds. Please consider
nominating a colleague for this award in 2008. Look for Awards and Grants
under the Library Staff button on the INFOhio Web site.
Also remember to nominate ITC personnel for the INFOhio Spence White Service
Award when the request for nominations is posted to the listserv.
Congratulations to Connie and thank you to everyone here for your continued
support for INFOhio!
