Classroom Integration of Electronic Resources
An Entirely Online Class Environment


Bowling Green State University and the INFOhio Instructional Development Task Force have partnered to develop this graduate-level class (1 hour credit). The class will be offered online through the BGSU IDEAL (Interactive Distance Education for all Learners) program.

Sara is a former school librarian and has experience training teachers for technology integration through the Ohio SchoolNet professional development modules. Currently, she is the Head Librarian for the Curriculum Resource Center, Jerome Library at BGSU. The Center provides K-12 materials for pre-service teachers.

Course
Description:
The integration of electronic information resources into classroom applications is important for long-term student success in K-12 and beyond. Students in this graduate class will examine and evaluate the features, content and application of electronic resources appropriate for K-12 classroom use. Age appropriate subject content area lessons will be created for final projects that effectively integrate electronic information resources into classroom experiences. Students will come away with lesson plans that can be implemented in their classrooms during the fall of 2003.

Time
Commitment:
This is a one-hour graduate class. All of the class content (discussion questions, assignments, final project, etc.) will be posted at the start of the class. Students can progress through the class at their own pace, posting responses as they are completed. The instructor estimates 6-9 hours of work each week for each student, depending on each person.

Outline:
This is just an outline of topics that will be covered. It is designed by week to provide a structure, but students are welcome to complete the assignments, etc. at their own pace, with the final project due July 18th.

June 16-22 - Overview of the Course; Introduction to Blackboard; The Structure of Information; Introduction to INFOhio Electronic Resources; Final Project topic exploration.

June 23-27 - DIALOGUE - Information Literacy Model; Evaluation of Information Resources; Ohio SchoolNet lesson format; Selection of final project topic

June 30-July 4 - Ethical Use of Information: Acceptable Use Policies, Copyright, Plagiarism, Citing Electronic Resources

July 7-11 - Exploration of Other Online Databases for Educators; INFOhio Ohio Free Web Resources; Final Projects - posted to Blackboard as finished

July 14-18 - Final projects posted to Blackboard; students respond via Blackboard to other student projects; course evaluation
