INFOhio's Core Collection provides state-funded resources free to all Ohio's K-12 students and teachers for the 2011-2012 school year.

A username and password are required for home access; see your school library media specialist OR complete the username and password request form.

Funded in part through an Institute of Museum and Library Services LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

New features for INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic Resources for 2010-2011:

General Updates

The home access Username and Password are new this school year.

The INFOhio Toolkit for 2010-2011 has new promotional materials.
 

The Slide Library links to Fall Update 2010: Building 21st Century Learning Environments With INFOhio. The PowerPoint has been designed for in-service sessions conducted throughout the year. Be sure to read the notes and check out the model curriculum slides!

The Supply List contains black & white and color versions of the bookmark, poster and student card, with and without the new username and password. A two-page flier designed for faculty is also available.

World Book Web. Encyclopedias for three levels: World Book Kids (K-5), World Book Student (5-9), and World Book Advanced (high school and college). World Book Online Reference Center is no longer available.
 

World Book Kids - Site redesigned and new research tools added, September 2010. Read the publisher's announcement and view sample screens.

Other new information

Great Web Sites for Kids has been added to Other Resources. The ALA-sponsored site identifies four categories: PreK, Elementary, Middle School and Parents/Teachers/Caregivers.

Instructional Development

The INFOhio DIALOGUE Model for 21st Century Skills has been revised to reflect evolving standards for 21st century learning and teaching.
 

Professional Development Opportunities. Includes webinars sponsored by Core Collection publishers and INFOhio's January IVDL session. January's Learn With INFOhio! webinars have been added. The sessions are free for all Ohio educators. Sessions sponsored by other agencies may have fees.

Library Automation

CAT Jr. is a completely revised interface that replaces last year’s CAT Jr. The new version still spotlights the familiar CAT Jr. character to help young learners more easily transition to the new interface. Images to help promote the new version of CAT Jr. are available on our Clip Art page.
 

INFOhio's Discovery Portal is available to all students, parents and educators who use INFOhio's CAT and CAT Jr. as their online catalogs. Check out the cool websites, fun activities and Core Collection searches. Read more...
 

U.S. Civil War and Financial Literacy is the second in a series of Spotlights to support INFOhio's Discovery Portal. These timely tips include specific, step-by-step strategies for Elementary School, Middle School and High School activities.

Miscellaneous

Advocating for INFOhio now reflects the current session of the Ohio General Assembly and the next state budget cycle. The page links to new INFOhio information to assist your advocacy efforts. INFOhio By The Numbers provides data that illustrate INFOhio's impact on Ohio's K-12 teaching and learning [PDF 2 pgs]. The INFOhio Fact Sheet has up-to-date talking points and other support information [HTML OR PDF 2 pgs].

Case Studies in College and Career Readiness provides seven examples of Ohio high school librarians and classroom teachers working with nearby college and university colleagues to create exciting and valuable opportunities for students making the transition from the K-12 environment to post secondary experiences. The new page is linked from Educator Resources in our Preparing Ohio Learners for 21st Century Success section.

Choose to Read Ohio spotlights Ohio authors and promotes reading across the state. The program is sponsored by the State Library of Ohio, in partnership with the Ohioana Library Association. Using Choose to Read Ohio in School: A Tipsheet for K-12 Educators includes information about available toolkits, Ohio Academic Content Standards, 21st century skills and standards, suggested activities and this year's book lists. Lesson Plan Resources, linked from the left menu on all Educator pages, has been revised to include Lesson Plans & Activities From the Ohio Historical Society. Anyone teaching Ohio history will want to check our this collection of resources designed to enhance the Ohio Department of Education's new Academic Content Standards and reflect the vast resources within the Society.

Ohio Libraries Share: MORE, the State Library of Ohio's statewide resource sharing program that is supported by INFOhio, now has additional materials for library staff to use. Check our our revised page with new documents to promote building/district involvement, links to SLO website content and more. In tight financial times, OLS: MORE might be the right program to get best use out of limited budgets! The deadline to join for 2011-2011 is May 31.
