We will cover what PLNs are, how to develop a good PLN and the benefits of a good PLN. We will also highlight using INFOhio's Knowledge Building Community, KBC, as part of your PLN.

During this session, a variety of projects will be highlighted including: loaning devices to students, implementing iPad's in the high school, encouraging reluctant readers through e-books, and going digital in reading classes. A variety of resources will be provided to guide librarians and teachers through the ever changing world of e-books and e-readers.

This session will provide an overview of the Common Core Literacy Standards that were adopted by Ohio in June 2011. Questions to be addressed include: What are the Literacy Standards? Where are they located? Why are the Literacy Standards important? Which content area teachers are responsible for teaching the Literacy Standards? How can educators across the content areas implement the Literacy Standards? How can librarians/media specialists support content area teachers in implementing the Literacy Standards?

Participants will learn how video book trailers can incorporate many language arts standards as well as 21st century skills. Presenters will share several free, online resources that students can use to create and edit video, music and sound effects, as well as to edit photos. Ban the Bird Reports (Enhancing Assignments with Inquiry and Best Practice 21st Century Strategies)

With this webinar learn how to turn fill-in-the-blank library assignments or reports into exciting learning experiences. Models, sample units, forms, and links to popular educational practices such as Understanding by Design will be discussed.

The models presented work K-12 and across all disciplines. They work when teachers are interested in going beyond the textbook and the lecture. They work extremely well in differentiated instruction and in classrooms where the students cannot understand the textbook. The models show how to integrate inquiry-based, research and technology into learning topics based on common core standards.

Additionally: David V. Loertscher is a national speaker. He has degrees from the University of Utah, the University of Washington and a Ph.D. from Indiana University. He has been a school library media specialist in Nevada and Idaho at both the elementary and secondary school levels. He has taught at Purdue University, The University of Arkansas, The University of Oklahoma, and is presently a professor at the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University. He served as head of the editorial department at Libraries Unlimited for ten years and is President of Hi Willow Research & Publishing. He has been a president of the American Association of School Librarians.

INFOhio - we're not just English anymore! Enrich, Enhance, and Extend Curriculum with New Digital Language Content

This session will introduce you to the new INFOhio database, Mango Languages. Mango includes instruction for 35 languages plus 15 options for English language learners. You'll pick up some great tips to use this in any classroom, not just a language class. We'll also cover other INFOhio databases that translate text into other languages for students, encyclopedias in French or Spanish, online courses in Spanish to improve English skills, and even little story books in Spanish.
