NWOET Social Studies Alignment Workshop for Librarian & Social Studies Teacher Teams

NOTE: BOTH SESSIONS OF THIS WORKSHOP HAVE BEEN CANCELED.

The Northwest Ohio Educational Technology Foundation (NWOET), in cooperation with INFOhio, is offering a two-day Social Studies Alignment Workshop for both social studies teachers and school librarians on October 2 and 22, 2008. Sessions times are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Participant teams are to attend both days.

Day One, October 2, will focus on location and alignment of resources, while Day Two, October 22, will focus on hands-on practice aligning sample resources (teachers) and creating catalog records for aligned resources (librarians). Attendance of librarians and their social studies teachers at both day-long sessions is strongly recommended. Registration fee includes lunch and certificate of attendance.

Purposes of the workshop

To apply standardized criteria to align school library resources to grade level indicators

To understand grade level indicators as they relate to the benchmarks

To retrieve aligned resources locally and via the INFOhio Curriculum Resource Catalog

To create the catalog record to retrieve aligned resources

Important - Only resources aligned to Ohio Academic Content Standards per the INFOhio process and criteria will be accepted by INFOhio for submission to the D3A2 Content Exchange.

Workshop open to

K-12 social studies teachers and librarians (A district must be represented by at least one teacher and one librarian.)

Preference will be given to INFOhio automated schools. NON-INFOhio automated schools are welcome, but assistance with access to local library automation system will not be available.

Workshop schedule

8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. - Registration and coffee

9 a.m.-3 p.m. - Workshop, lunch and breaks

Cost
- $149 per participant includes binder of all workshop materials, morning coffee and rolls, box lunch and afternoon snack. Special price to OELMA members: $134 (10% discount)

Graduate credit: There will be a graduate credit option through Bowling Green State University for those attending both days of training as well as the pre-conference of the OELMA Conference the evening of Wednesday, October 22, and completing additional online instruction. Practice using the INFOhio rubric for aligning resources; includes resources provided for instruction and those brought by workshop participants

Practice locating, completing and submitting the online Alignment Form

Practice retrieving resources via the INFOhio Curriculum Resource Catalog

Practice creating or editing catalog records for the description and retrieval of aligned resources; Librarians may work in their own database or a practice database
