Librarians are encouraged to organize a group of participants with computers at their sites, as there will be hands-on activities in most of these presentations. CEU certificates will be provided. This connection is for ATM sites. To schedule a video conference, e-mail Melissa Higgs-Horwell, Distance Learning Coordinator at SCOCA, with your contact information, video conference contact person, site name, DID number and troubleshooting phone number. This interactive session will not only acquaint you with the LearningExpress Library of practice tests and skills remediation courses, but you'll get an account as well. Come see how easy it is to help students and parents find practice tests for the ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB and more. Join Jay Burton from the State Library of Ohio, for hands-on experience with this new INFOhio resource, LearningExpress Library. This session will be great for guidance counselors.
Britannica Online School Edition - Language
Arts and Social StudiesNovember 1, 2006, 3:30-4:45 p.m. Working on your lesson plans for Language Arts or Social Studies? Looking for new online resources for your classroom? Come join us for an INFOhio IVDL training workshop on Britannica Online School Edition, with a special focus on Language Arts and Social Studies resources, for both elementary and secondary teachers. For those sites with computers, hands-on activities will be included. This workshop will explore Britannica's collection of encyclopedias, images, multimedia and video clips, recommended Internet sites, current magazine articles, primary source documents, world study tools and Spanish-language resources. Britannica also includes teacher resources like the Ohio Academic Content Standards and student activities. Topics include Basic Reading, Writing, American and English Literature, Geography, American and World History and Government. Hilit Kravitz will conduct the workshop. Hilit is Encyclopaedia Britannica's Director of Professional Development, and she has trained elementary and secondary educators across the country on effectively using Britannica Online resources.

A fast-paced presentation with time for questions, these products will be emphasized in the one-hour session: Britannica Online School Edition, EBSCOhost, Enciclopedia Universal en Espaņol, NewsBank Newspapers, Oxford Reference Online and SIRS Discoverer. The session presenter is Dave Ambrose, INFOhio Communications and Training Specialist.
SIRS Discoverer - Science and MathNovember 30, 2006, 3:30-4:30 p.m. You are invited to a workshop on SIRS Discoverer, an information and learning resource for elementary and middle school teachers and students. Come join us for an informative hands-on workshop which focuses on integrating SIRS in the math and science curriculum, with special focus on Ohio standards. SIRS Discoverer is an award-winning resource for students that makes learning fun and intuitive. It helps students in grades 1-8 develop their writing, language, research and computer skills. SIRS Discoverer provides schools with compelling, multidisciplinary learning resources for extending and reinforcing student achievement at all levels. This workshop will explore SIRS Discoverer's science and math content, as well as methods for differentiating instruction using SIRS Discoverer resources. The session presenter is Sally B. Fell, ProQuest's Manager of the K-12 Account Development Group.
December 7, 2006, 3:30-4:30 p.m. It's easier than ever to access Ohio Area Instructional Media Centers' (OAIMC) Digital
Video Collection (DVC), now that home access is provided with the same username and
password required for INFOhios Core Collection of Electronic Resources. The DVC
contains more than 200 videos, with more than 700 instructional modules, and includes
programs for almost all subjects and grade levels. The entire collection is available
without charge to Ohios K-12 community.
