Cyber Safe Ohio Professional Development
INFOhio's fall 2009 series of 60-minute, interactive video
conference professional development workshops is for teachers, librarians,
curriculum coordinators, guidance counselors and technology coordinators.
Librarians are encouraged to organize a group of participants with computers
at their sites, as there will be hands-on activities in most of these
presentations. CEU certificates will be provided. This connection is for ATM
sites.
To schedule a video conference, e-mail
IVDLorders@laca.org with your
contact information, video conference contact person, site name, name of
their equipment and/or an external IP address if your unit is not in the TC
reliance system at eTech Ohio. Or, use the Site Registration Form
for the appropriate session. Deadline to register: Three days prior

Introducing CAT 2.0!
September 17, 2009, 3-4 p.m.
INFOhio’s newest addition to its automation family is CAT
2.0. This CAT has a sleek, sophisticated look and lots of
new features. For example, CAT 2.0 allows patrons to renew
checked out items and place holds on materials. Many new
functions and features will be discussed. As always, the
OPAC committee is looking forward to your input. If this
sounds like the CAT you’ve been looking for, then join us
for an overview of INFOhio’s new online catalog.The session presenter

INFOhio’s Core Collection of
Electronic Resources to support research-based
activities and student collaboration correlated to
Ohio’s Academic Content Standards. Educators
attending this session will gain insights and strategies
to use the Thanksgiving Means More Than
Giving Thanks WebQuest for Grades 3-6 and
will learn how to apply Web-based lesson plans to other
grade levels.

TRAILS:
Helping Students Plot Successful Paths to Information Literacy
December 16, 2009, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The Tool for Real-Time Assessment of Information Literacy
Skills (TRAILS) measures students' information literacy
skills. Learn how to use this assessment tool that is freely available
on the Web. Learn how to create and manage an online account on the
TRAILS site. Learn how to download the TRAILS data and put it into a
spreadsheet to produce charts and graphs. Get ideas on how teachers,
administrators and librarians collaborate using the assessment results
to develop strong instruction and assignments. The session is
appropriate for those working with grades 3-12.

King Jr. Day

Learn how to use INFOhio’s
Core Collection of Electronic Resources to support
research-based activities. Educators attending this session will gain
insights and strategies to use for student research and Martin
Luther King Jr. Day. Lesson plans already created at
Education World, ReadWriteThink, and Doreen Rappaport’s home page (Martin’s
Big Words) will be included.
Although many of the lesson plans are elementary, several lessons for
middle are high school will also be shown. You will discover some of the
hidden treasures found in INFOhio’s resources.

 Exploring Ohio's Mound Builders With
INFOhio, Google Earth™ and Google Maps™
January 20, 2010, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Have your students create a tour of Ohio's ancient earthworks from
the Woodland Period with Google Earth. Based
on their own research, students can compile their findings in a
Google Earth tour that can be shared online with Google Maps.
Tours can contain Web links, text and photos to enhance the satellite
imagery already in Google Earth and Google Maps. We'll
share project resources and how-to ideas for using
INFOhio’s Core Collection of Electronic
Resources, Google Earth and Google Maps.

Jog the Web: A FREE Interactive Web 2.0 Tool That's Cool!
February 11, 2010, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Jog
the Web
is a FREE Web 2.0 tool that takes your students on a step-by-step tour
of Web sites that you have selected. But it also allows the creator to
post questions and comments at each Web page. You could call it a virtual
tour or Web scavenger hunt.
As a
librarian, you could take your students on a tour of the online catalog
and have them perform tasks along the way, or show them the online
databases that are available through INFOhio.
As a
classroom teacher, you can send your students to specific Web sites and
ask questions about the site. Each slide or
Track
is completely interactive.

will be featured as the sources for student research. Using an
Education World lesson plan, students will become editors of a new
book entitled The Encyclopedia of
Notable Women. Their responsibility will be to select women in the
arts, medicine, politics, science and sports fields that are the most
deserving of inclusion in this greatest women in history encyclopedia.

Cyber Safe Ohio Professional Development

The
Ohio
Attorney General's Office, SCOCA and INFOhio are pleased to offer a
one-hour teacher in-service session on the Ohio AntiHarassment,
Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Law conducted by Kathleen L. Nichols
from the office of the Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray. The
session will provide Ohio educators with up-to-date information on Anti
HIB, Internet safety, cybercrime issues and digital citizenship. Prepare
your staff to help educate students about the consequences and the
effects of bullying through the use of social networks and other digital
