The Exchange: Setting the Student Platform 2008Proceed to The Exchange at the National Constitution Center Web site.
September 23, 2008

1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The National Constitution Center, Philadelphia
Contact: Jason Allen, 215-409-6644

Student leaders from across the nation gathered via Internet2 videoconferencing technology to create a student political platform for the presidential candidates in 2008 using the student created agenda as planks of their platform.

Beachwood High School was selected as one of nine schools nationally to participate in the September 23 event. Jennifer Schwelik, library media specialist, coordinated the event at her school with students participating from the social studies classes of Bonnie Morosi, Karissa Piper, Pam Oglivey and Greg Deegan.

Schools around the country could view the live webcast between 1 and 3 p.m. EST on September 23 and later on The Exchange site. Students who did not take part in the videoconference discussion were able to e-mail questions and comments to host SuChin Pak of MTV News and the participating students via a simultaneous online chat. Students also have the opportunity to create and post their own media including art, video and Web sites in The Exchange online community.

Now that Ohio K-12 schools can be connected to the Internet2 if they receive their Internet access through an ITC, this program provided an engaging, topical program for high school social studies classes.

Note: Since some school districts choose to block and/or filter specific URLs such as social networking sites, educators should follow local procedures to make desired content available from school computers. Home computers may block/filter content, depending on the settings determined by their owners, and are not managed by INFOhio, ITCs or Internet2.
