Dear Oxford Reference Online subscriber,
The latest update to Oxford
Reference Online: Premium Collection is now live!
NEW TITLES
Four new titles have been added to the Premium Collection this
month.
This month's update includes the new second edition of The Oxford Companion to
the Supreme Court, edited by Kermit L. Hall. This edition has been fully
updated and includes new entries on key cases and full treatment of crucial areas of
constitutional law, such as abortion, freedom of religion, school desegregation, freedom
of speech, voting rights, military tribunals and the rights of the accused.
Also included is the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, edited by
Katherine Barber. The dictionary combines information on English as it is used in Canada
with coverage of international English. Each entry is exceptionally reliable, the result
of thorough research into the language and Oxford's unparalleled language resources. This
new edition is completely up to date with 5,000 new words and senses. It features 2,200
uniquely Canadian words and senses, 350 usage notes, 7,000 idiomatic expressions, 5,500
biographical entries, and over 5,600 place names.
The Oxford Companion to Australian Literature and the New
Zealand Oxford Dictionary have also been added with this update. For more
details about this update, go to the Oxford Reference Online What's New page.
NEW EDITIONS
Four new editions have been added this month.
The Oxford Companion to Philosophy, edited by Ted Honderich,
gathers together 249 distinguished philosophers to create the most authoritative and
engaging philosophical reference work in English. It gives clear and reliable guidance to
all areas of philosophy and to the ideas of all notable philosophers from antiquity to the
present day. The second edition has been considerably revised and updated, and includes
300 new articles on current topics, such as animal consciousness, cloning, corporate
responsibility, the family, globalization and terrorism.
The Oxford Dictionary of English, edited by Catherine Soanes and
Angus Stevenson, has established itself as the foremost single-volume authority on the
English language. Using new and original methods, it presents words according to their use
and frequency based on the evidence of the Oxford English Corpus, an unrivalled
collection of millions of words of modern English.
Also included: new editions of A Dictionary of Sociology and A
Dictionary of Finance and Banking.
