April 28, 2004INFOhio Technical Services, working with EBSCO Publishing
technical support staff, provides this update regarding INFOhio's EBSCOhost
subscription. EBSCOhost authentication screen
We would like to thank you for all of
the constructive comments you provided about access to the EBSCOhost databases;
they were very beneficial. With your help, EBSCO Publishing was able to track the origin
of the issue to a setting in their Microsoft IIS software, to which some caching servers
did not respond. They adjusted the setting and asked the INFOhio
Electronic Resources Task Force and the INFOhio
Providers to test the resolution.
The testing went very well and, as a
result of our testing, the resolution has now been implemented on the production servers
for all of their customers. The same group tested further, and the overwhelming results
have been positive. Please take some time to randomly test the EBSCOhost
resources, and please let us know promptly if you encounter any problems by sending a
message to your regional INFOhio Provider and to webmaster@infohio.org.
Some of you had stated that you had taken steps to avoid demonstrating EBSCOhost
because of the problems EBSCO was experiencing. At INFOhio, we certainly understand your
frustration. However, we hope this resolution allows you to resume recommending EBSCOhost
to your students and colleagues, as you build confidence in the availability of this
quality resource.
Finally, we want to make you aware that INFOhio has posted troubleshooting steps that may
aid in resolving the problems on our page entitled General FAQs
for INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic Resources. However, we want to
reiterate that if you should ever encounter any problems with any of the INFOhio
Electronic Resources, please do not hesitate to contact your your regional INFOhio Provider and webmaster@infohio.org.
Thank you again for all of the patience you have demonstrated while EBSCO Publishing and
INFOhio worked to address this problem.
