Product Update for Britannica Online
School Edition Java Plug-In and Locations for Curriculum Standards February 3, 2004 INFOhio relays this message from Encyclopaedia Britannica, publisher of Britannica Online School Edition, and is not responsible for the content or the reliability of Web links. Your INFOhio username and password may be needed to open some links. Below are technical notes that I consider useful for all INFOhio users of Britannica Online School Edition: First is that there is an additional plug-in that some of the student activities on Britannica require: Java. This plug-in is often included with most browsers, but if not, it can be downloaded for free from www.java.com. This is for the Mathematics Manipulatives, like on this page http://school.eb.com/eb/browse/learning?topic=g612_math_manipulatives_geometry [A link for Java has been added to the INFOhio Multimedia Tools page.] Second is that, at this time, it may be a little confusing where the curriculum standards are on Britannica (we are working on making this better). To find them, you need to go to the Teachers' Resources page, using either the combined K-12 version of Britannica or the Compton's version of Britannica Online School Edition. If you click Teachers' Resources from either the High School or the Elementary version, you will not see the Curriculum Standards link on the Teachers' Resources page (yet). Please let me know if this is not clear, or if you have any questions about either of these things. Thank you and best regards, Hilit |
