PRODUCT OVERVIEW

African American Song brings 50,000 tracks of music to the ears of library patrons and music scholars, including jazz, blues, gospel and other forms of African American musical expression. It's the first online resource to document the history of African American music in the form of an online listening service. Users search using a powerful interface, identify the music and performances they want to hear, and click to listen through speakers or headphones.

Classical Music Library is an ever-growing, fully searchable classical music resource—a comprehensive database of distinguished classical recordings. It includes tens of thousands of licensed recordings that users can listen to on the Internet. The audio selections are cross-referenced to a database of supplementary reference information. Unlike other resources on the Web, Classical Music Library is the only audio service developed exclusively with the needs of librarians in mind. It’s also the only dedicated library resource offering music licensed from major labels. Users browse, search, click and then listen to the music over the Internet through their headphones.

Smithsonian Global Sound® is a virtual encyclopedia of the world's musical and aural traditions. The collection provides educators, students and interested listeners with an unprecedented variety of online resources that support the creation, continuity and preservation of diverse musical forms. The database includes an extraordinary array of more than 35,000 individual tracks of music, spoken word and natural and human-made sounds.

Note: Previewers may need to configure proxy servers to prepare them to handle requests. Additionally, firewalls will need to have port 81 open to receive MP3 streams (from Macintosh and Netscape users) and port 1755 open for Windows media streams (Windows-Internet Explorer users).

Web accessibility (ADA, Section 508 compliance): Not submitted
