Tall Ships Celebrate Ohio's Bicentennial
July 2003 was a special month along the North Coast, with more than 15 historic vessels visiting ports from Toledo to Cleveland. The vessels represented several periods, such as the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and different purposes, such as Great Lakes trading schooners of the 1800s and ocean-going ships. The event was called "Ohio Bicentennial Tall Ships" and brought together more tall ships (those with masts for sails) in Ohio's waters since the 1800s. Thousands of visitors saw the ships, and many vessels were available for on-board tours.
Read more about the event and visit the Web links on this page. Then, using materials in the Craft Corner, build a model tall ship for the class regatta. The assignment is due the week before Thanksgiving.
