ER Vendor Preview set for 2004

j0089014[1].wmf (13688 bytes)Theresa M. Fredericka, INFOhio Executive Director, announced recently details for INFOhio's Electronic Resources Vendor Preview for 2004. "I am pleased with the strong support vendors are showing, in this our seventh preview year," Fredericka stated. "More than 130 products are available for preview from 33 vendors, with many offerring special pricing for the 2004-2005 school year. Many districts use the two-month preview period to identify products that support their curricula and extend the resources available to all schools through INFOhio's Core Collection." Here are details about Preview 2004.

Vendor selection - INFOhio's Electronic Resources Task Force adopted selection criteria for Preview 2004 products and invited past vendors to participate. Most are back with new and improved features to offer their customers, and some have new products. Other vendors were invited to participate, and one new company has joined the program, WorldandISchool.com.

Price List 2004 - Each participating vendor submitted product pricing for the 2004-2005 school year, some with special INFOhio discounts. A printed Price List 2004 was mailed to each public, community and non-public school in Ohio. For the first year, a PDF version of the price list is available. Because of vendor confidentiality requirements, the electronic version is password-protected. DASite INFOhio support staff have distributed the password to all librarians and technology directors in their service areas by e-mail. You are authorized to pass along the password to others making purchasing decisions in your institution.

Free online preview - For two months, January 15 through March 15, 2004, each of the more than 130 products can be previewed without cost of other obligation. Access is through the INFOhio Web site, with each Preview 2004 vendor's page containing product descriptions and contact information. Also available: how to obtain technical support and links to vendors' corporate Web sites. All 33 vendor pages are conveniently linked from the Preview 2004 summary page. A complete lists of vendors and their products is also available. Please encourage your colleages and students to test as many products as they can during the preview period. Any usernames or passwords required for individual vendor products are included on the Preview 2004 Web pages.

Online evaluation - INFOhio requests all those who participate in Preview 2004 -- educators, students, parents -- to help us evaluate the program. The online evaluation form can be used at the conclusion of the preview period. To be tabulated, responses must be received before March 31, 2004.

"INFOhio appreciates those vendors participating in Preview 2004," Fredericka stressed. "I urge everyone in Ohio's K-12 community to make use of this special opportunity. While we are proud of our Core Collection of Electronic Resources, we realize they can't address every need for all Ohio students. Wise use of local funds to supplement the Core Collection is important, and I believe Preview 2003 will help decision-makers spend their funds wisely."
