LSTA Funds allow ER collection to
increase by seven! INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic Resources has more than doubled for the 2003-2004 school year, with the addition of seven new resources. Funds for the new resources were provided in part through an Institute of Museum and Library Services LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio to Libraries Connect Ohio, INFOhio working with Ohio's other library networks, OhioLINK and OPLIN. To provide the resources to their patrons, each network is funding 25% of license fees from their separate operating budgets. Background about the seven new resources is available. Libraries Connect Ohio (LCO) strives to guarantee that all Ohio citizens have a core set of information resources, available online, regardless of where they go to school or live. Still in its early development, LCO resources are selected to help Ohio citizens compete in the global economy and improve their quality of life.
A series 30 regional update sessions began in August, providing overviews on all seven new resources and updates on the resources continuing from last school year. Most of the sessions are co-sponsored by regional DASites, to make the three-hour presentations as convenient as possible. There is no cost, and all Ohio educators are welcome to attend. Summer Planning Conference sets INFOhio's course for 2003-2004 More than 100 members of the INFOhio community attended the 2003 version of the INFOhio Retreat, a planning conference for 2003-2004. Users, DASite providers, INFOhio staff, and guests attended the three-day event at Capital University in Columbus to evaluate past accomplishments and to set directions for the new school year. A complete summary of Retreat 2003 is available on the INFOhio Web site. Many of the resources used during the Retreat are linked, including PowerPoints for the first two general sessions and task force summaries presented during the final general session. Next year's Planning Conference is scheduled for June 16-18, 2004, in Mansfield. General sessions and task force work sessions are planned for NCOCC, the DASite that supports INFOhio in the Mansfield area. Nearby hotels will be used for overnight accommodations.
