Transition Update: First buildings up in September!

The first 45 buildings to migrate from MultiLIS, INFOhio's current library automation software, to Sirsi's K-12 product, are expected to be online by the end of October 2003. Five DASites are participating in the first wave of buildings to migrate, prototypes for more than 2,000 buildings that will follow over the next few years. Here's a summary of the transition timeline since the INFOhio Retreat in June. (For prior information, see the Library Automation page of the last INFOhio RECORD or visit the Sirsi Transition section of the INFOhio Web site.)

Sirsi - How will you shape the future? Each of the five prototype DASites (LNOCA, MEC, NOACSC, SCOCA, SPARCC) has installed a server to manage the Sirsi software and house the data for patrons and materials for their participating buildings.

With the help of INFOhio Technical Support staff, DASite providers have created databases and policies for each prototype. The databases will accept information in existing MultiLIS banks, and the policies are similar to MultiLIS policies for circulation, patron management, and the like.

Test loads have begun, and librarians will help assess their data to make sure the conversion process is satisfactory.

A Training/Documentation team has drafted materials to support the new software, focusing on tip sheets for circulation and other modules and accompanying flip charts. Prototype library staff will test the documentation as they migrate, and later revisions will help those migrating next.

Prototype providers have attended training on how to set up their servers, manage the software, and support their libraries. Training for library staff involved in the the first migration wave will receive training on the new software by the end of September. October 27 is the target date for migrating the first 45 buildings.

The prototype DASites and buildings will help INFOhio evaluate the migration process, leading to converting the remainder of the 2,000 INFOhio buildings to Sirsi’s K-12 product over the next three years and adding new buildings that want to participate in INFOhio's library automation program.. INFOhio plans to have all its buildings using Sirsi’s K-12 product by the 2005-2006 school year.

Documents available to support Transition

Sirsi Corporation announced INFOhio's migration to the company's K-12 product on June 23, 2003, at the American Library Association's annual meeting held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A copy of the press release is mounted on the Sirsi Web site.

What You need to Know About Migration to Sirsi K-12 is a three-fold brochure produced by INFOhio that contains important information for school administrators, technology coordinators and library media staff. The PDF document is two pages.
