New Spanish encyclopedia joins Core Collection
Hispánica Saber - Gran Enciclopedia Hispánica from World Book Inc. and Hispánica Saber is scheduled to join INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic Resources on January 16, 2009. The encyclopedia is written from a Latin American perspective, and its content is updated monthly to ensure accuracy and currency. Some of Gran Enciclopedia Hispánica's features include:

100,000+ articles; 8,500+ images and maps

Almost 1,000 pieces of multimedia (videos, animations, sounds)

Dictionary, Timeline, statistics section; links to thousands of editor-reviewed Web sites

Designed for native Spanish speakers and bilingual students

12-13 Transition update
The restructuring of Ohio's education program, from preschool through college, is supported by efforts by INFOhio and  OhioLINK. The two agencies established a special task force, with the following accomplishments to date:

Preparing 21st Century Ohio Learners for Success: The Role of Information Literacy and Libraries, a list of goals and action steps for transitioning students from high school to college. [PDF 9 pgs]

A Web page, Preparing 21st Century Ohio Learners for Success: Helping Today's Students & Tomorrow's Teachers, that collects resources for high schoolers, librarians and other educators.

A revised Information Literacy E-List (listserv) for in-service and pre-service educators who wish to share ideas and best practices related to the integration of information literacy and 21st century skills in standards based classrooms. New subscribers are welcome! Read more...

A new software plug-in to stream Digital Video Collection files and 19
new programs in the Our Ohio: Profiles in Government series were announced in late December. To learn about the Adobe Flash Player now available and see a list of new video titles, read the announcement. The Digital Video Collection is provided by Ohio's Area Instructional Media Centers at no charge to all Ohio students, educators and parents. INFOhio staff provide technical support and collection maintenance.
