Internet2, an improved network that delivers enhanced curricular content even faster than the traditional Internet, is beginning to impact how students learn and how teachers teach in the 21st century. Three new Web pages mark INFOhio's efforts to help Ohio educators learn more about Internet2:

Internet2 and Ohio Schools: A World of Resources - Background information prepared by INFOhio.

Internet2 Instructional Support - Links for educators to background information and other helpful resources. Also lists specific classroom activities that make use of Internet2.

Internet2 Technical Support - Links for technologists to background information and other helpful resources. Also will list training opportunities for technology coordinators and support staff.

High School social studies teachers should be sure to check out The Exchange: Setting the Student Platform 2008, a videoconference where students gather via Internet2 to create a political platform for the U.S. presidential candidates. While it may be too late to watch the videoconference live, INFOhio's page has follow-up resources and links.

Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, Ohio school districts that use the Ohio Education Computer Network as their primary Internet provider have unlimited Internet2 Network access without bandwidth charges. Costs for Internet2-capable technology within the school districts or additional charges for participating in Internet2 activities will be the responsibility of the districts.

Read the press release explaining Ohio's entry into the Internet2 community. A roster of INFOhio's Internet2 steering committee is available.

Hugh Durbin Award process opens for 2008
Applications/Nominations are now being received for the 2008 INFOhio Hugh Durbin Leadership Award, which encourages and supports involvement in the leadership of INFOhio by practicing library media center personnel. The award identifies potential leaders and facilitates their participation in INFOhio. The award includes a stipend of up to $500 for the recipient to attend the Ohio Educational Library Media Association (OELMA) conference. This year's deadline is September 30, 2008.

Important News, Stories and More Links
Now that the election is days away, an INFOhio Electronic Resources Spotlight, U.S. Presidential Election 2008, helps to provide background, context and up-to-date links for students and teachers. The spotlight suggests effective search strategies to get best use out of our Core Collection. In addition, several other links assist research of this important topic.

INFOhio's series of IVDL sessions returns for fall 2008. The sessions are conducted by Ohio educators and publisher representatives to highlight Core Collection resources. Open to all Ohio educators, the sessions are free and last about an hour. Descriptions, site registration forms and related resources are available. More info: Professional Development Opportunities
