Looking ahead to the 2007-2008 school year...

Core Collection username/password retained
INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic ResourcesINFOhio's 2007-2008 home access username and password for the Core Collection of Electronic Resources will be the same as during the 2006-2007 school year.
Ohio library media staff and other educators are encouraged to distribute the username/password to members of their educational communities (students, parents, staff). This includes student handbooks and password-protected documents and sites. Publication of the username/password on public Web sites, community newsletters and similar places violates INFOhio's agreements with the vendors who provide Core Collection components. Several items in the current INFOhio Toolkit Supply List will be usable during 2007-2008; watch for additional resources to promote the Core Collection in August.

Legislative Update...
While Ohio's next budget works its way through the General Assembly, INFOhio cannot be 100% sure of the status of INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic Resources for the 2007-2008 school year and beyond. The House version of the budget (HB 119) passed recently without cuts to the Core Collection. "I am reasonably confident that the Core Collection for 2007-2008 will be the same as the current school year," states Theresa M. Fredericka, INFOhio's Executive Director. "I urge Ohio educators, students and parents to write to members of the Ohio Senate Finance and Financial Institutions Committee and urge full funding for INFOhio and our Core Collection, including the OAIMC Digital Video Collection. Send copies to your senator and INFOhio, too." Talking points and other information is available in INFOhio's Legislative Action Plan for 2007.

OCLC WorldCat to replace CatExpress for INFOhio-automated schools
INFOhio and the ITCs that support more than 2,400 automated schools have joined forces with OHIONET to make OCLC WorldCat available during the 2007-2008 school year. The service will replace OCLC CatExpress. Records will be copied from the WorldCat database of more than 70 million bibliographic records using the SirsiDynix SmartPort wizard. Read more... in the complete message.

The WorldCat service will begin no later than July 15, 2007.

CatExpress subscriptions are valid through June 29. Unused records after that date will be lost.

Contact the ITC provider who provides automation support for your school about any additional cost for the WorldCat subscription.

Librarians not automated with INFOhio can subscribe to WorldCat by contacting OHIONET.
