When an item placed
on hold becomes available, a message displays in the record of the patron in
the first position in the holds queue. The library must contact the patron and
activate the hold. An expiration date appears indicating that the hold is now
activated (an * appears to the left of the date)and when the hold will be
canceled if not picked up.
NOTE:
Failure to activate a hold may – depending on Policies – prevent other patrons
from placing a hold on the item.
Used to enter or modify the expiration date after which a hold will automatically be canceled. It is possible to enter an expiration date for a hold, even if a hold is not activated. This would be the case if a patron needed an item until a specific date. Enter the expiration date as
(YYYY-MM-DD).
PF4 – Place a Hold
Will place a hold or display a submenu:
PF4 Place a hold in
the current location
F7 Place a hold on
a specific copy
F8 Place a global
hold (Displays in authorized in Policies.)
F9 Place a hold on items of a specified
collection code
F6 – Change Position in the Queue
When more than one patron places a hold on a record, the system builds a holds queue and assigns a position in the queue to each patron in chronological order. Regardless of the type of hold entered, all patrons are placed in the same holds queue. A patron can place only one hold at a time per record. It is possible for staff to modify the queue positions, if needed. The system prompts for the new queue position. All other positions in that queue will be modified accordingly.
A
user may decide to cancel a hold placed on an item. Enter the number of the
hold to cancel at the “Selection” prompt. The hold disappears from the user’s
record.
NOTE: Expired holds are deleted automatically from the holds
queue if the “Holds Batch Update” function is running. You do not need to
cancel them.
Enables you to view the
patron’s circulation transactions without exiting the patron’s record.
Holds Queue (as displayed in Item History) for a specific record. Holds information in Display User
Records (status of a patron’s
holds)
