Link an Item to a Record

 

 

Linking an Item from One Bibliographic Record to Another

 

 

Use this procedure to:

 

     ·  Move items to the correct record, if an error was made when the item was first linked.

     ·  Remove duplicate records.

     ·  Link items to INFOhio Union Catalog records that have not been linked automatically.

 

 

1.   Select “Create and Update Bibliographic Records.”

 

2.      Locate the bibliographic record that you will link the item to (note its record number).

           

3.   Locate the bibliographic record that currently contains the item that you want to link.

 

            Enter the record number if you know it (00-0000000).

               OR

            Press PF2 to perform an online catalog search for the record.

 

4.   Press Y at the prompt, “Is this the correct record?” when you have located the bibliographic

      record that contains the item you wish to link.

 

     The bibliographic record will display on the screen.

 

     The prompt “Field to modify” will display at the bottom of the screen.

 

5.      Select the item line number.

 

NOTE: Depending on the size of the bibliographic record, you may have to press NEXT SCREEN to locate the item field.

 

6.       Select “Link an item to another record” from the sub-menu.

7.      Enter the barcode number of the item to be linked.

NOTE: Depending on the number of items attached, you may have to press NEXT SCREEN.

 

8.  Enter the record number of the bibliographic record you noted in step 2 at the prompt, then

     press ENTER.
