Announcements and Updates
Biography Reference Bank announces improved
interface
A message from H.W. Wilson Co.
April 5, 2010
Dear
Colleagues,
The H.W. Wilson Company is pleased to announce that the
following enhancements to its
WilsonWeb
interface, including several enhancements to
Biography Reference Bank,
will take place on Monday, April 5th. The following enhancements will be
included:
 |
The Advanced Search screen [the
default screen INFOhio uses] has been given a more graphical look
and feel, with links to take users directly to featured content
within the database. The links will be chosen to coincide with
issues of topical interest or with key dates in history. They should
be prove invaluable to anyone looking for project ideas, topical
discussion topics, or anyone who is just browsing the database. |
 |
Image explosion now available. Move
the mouse pointer to an image and a larger image immediately
displays, without needing to click on an image. This new mouseover
feature will provide increased accessibility, displaying images
without having to open a separate page. |
 |
The Master View has a new look as
well. Patrons will find that links to additional content are more
prominently displayed, ensuring that all content on a particular
subject can be quickly located. |
 |
New paragraph spacing breaks up profile text,
making it easier to read. |
 |
Users will now have the ability to save
multiple records at one time into their My WilsonWeb
account, instead of just one at a time, as was done previously. They
can now mark the desired records in the box next to the records and
then click the Save to My WilsonWeb link, which is found
next to the Get Marked and Clear Marks features. |
 |
When users have selected a specific article
by clicking on the title of the record found on their search results
page, they will be able to click on the Cite button to
bring up a popup window that shows simplified adaptations of citing
in MLA, APA, Chicago/Turabian: Humanities and Chicago/Turabian:
Date-Author formats. As a convenience to users, the new Print
button has been added to the popup window. |
 |
On
WilsonWeb’s search results pages, the popular Content
Discovery Keys have now been arranged for added convenience to
users. The Content Discovery Keys are now arranged in the
following order, from top to bottom: |
| |
 |
Narrow These Results –
Clicking on the choices available (these can vary depending
upon the database), the user opens the category by clicking
on the category name (like By Author, By
Subject, etc.) and then selects one of the items
presented, narrowing the result set to the right of the
Content Discovery Keys. |
 |
New Search By Subject –
WilsonWeb offers alternative Subject headings
for the user's consideration, giving users possibilities for
an entirely new search in the database. |
 |
My WilsonWeb – If the user
has logged onto their parallel My WilsonWeb
account, links to the various components or his/her account
are listed. |
 |
Recent Searches – This is
what is often referred to as a “breadcrumb trail.” It lists
all recent searches, giving the user the ability by clicking
on any one the earlier searches, returning to that search.
|
|
See the
WilsonWeb Enhancements Release 3.4 for details and screen views
about these and other enhancements.
