Ohio Library Partnership Summit to Explore Priorities
Message from INFOhio and OELMA
March 30, 2007

Dear Ohio School Library Leader,

Plan now to attend the first Ohio Library Partnership Summit on Monday, May 21, 2007, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Fawcett Center in Columbus on the Ohio State University campus. It will end by 3 p.m. The Summit is a collaboration of the State Library of Ohio, OPLIN, INFOhio, OhioLINK, OHIONET and the Ohio Library Council, who have generously provided financial support, and also with the support of ALAO, OCLIS and OELMA.

This meeting will bring together the leaders of the Ohio library communities -- academic, public, school and special -- so we can look at the current state of statewide projects and initiatives from a multi-type library perspective and talk about the future of these programs and services. Most importantly, it is a chance for all library leaders to engage in an active dialog about actions needed to promote and fund meaningful collaboration.

The Summit is by invitation only. All directors of Ohio public libraries, directors and deans of academic libraries and school library leaders are being invited to attend. This is your invitation to attend this important meeting.

As these library leaders consider the future of library programs and state funding, it is important that the voices of school librarians be heard. The role of librarians in teaching information literacy and 21st century skills needs to be part of the message that Ohio librarians communicate to government officials and the public at large. Your experience and expertise with these issues will be an important contribution to the Summit.

At the meeting we will hear from Bill DeJohn, Executive Director of MINITEX, about Minnesota's long history of successful multi-type collaborative efforts. We will review Ohio's current and desired statewide programs -- virtual reference, Ohio Web Library reference databases, resource sharing -- with an emphasis on the goals and funding needs for the future and how we achieve these. Directors will have an opportunity to discuss these plans and influence the policies and actions that will determine the future of library collaboration in Ohio.

Attendance is free but we ask that you register for planning purposes at:
http://www.ohionet.org/summit.php (username: summit / password: partners). The registration page includes a detailed agenda and driving directions to the Fawcett Center.

Please register by Monday, May 7, 2007. We hope to see you there!

Theresa M. Fredericka, INFOhio Executive Director
Vicky Schmarr, OELMA President
Sue Rahn, OELMA Past President
