Announcements and Updates Kids Search Revisions Message from INFOhio May 16, 2006 Dear Colleagues, INFOhio continues to adjust the resources available in EBSCO Kids Search to better meet the needs and expectations of students and teachers. After soliciting comments from the INFOhio Core Collection Product Updates Project Advisory Team and others around our state, we have revised the databases included in Kids Search for better alignment with its intended grade 3-5 use. Kids Search now contains the following databases: - Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia - EBSCO Animals - Primary Search - Dictionary (American Heritage Children's Dictionary) - Images While the database content matches that in Searchasaurus, Kids Search provides access to the material via a more sophisticated search interface. Searchasaurus targets beginning readers with its island interface and Fun Facts. The Kids Search interface, which targets grades 3-5, matches the appearance and search strategies of Student Research Centers for Grades 6-8 and 9-12. Also like the Student Research Center interface, Kids Search has a direct link to Teacher Resources: Academic Search Premier, ERIC and Professional Development Collection. Another significant enhancement in both Searchasaurus and Kids Search is the use of full text as a default search strategy. Search results for these interfaces no longer deliver abstracts by default. All EBSCO databases that are included in INFOhio's subscription, 24 in all, are available through our All Database Search. INFOhio hopes these changes make the use of Searchasaurus and Kids Search more effective for you and your patrons. Please continue making suggestions for improvements to all INFOhio products and services! Theresa M. Fredericka INFOhio Executive Director fredericka@infohio.org |
